"The Department of Music of the University of Missouri--Columbia announces its sponsorship of a conference titled 'Jazz and the Germans--The Influence of 'Hot' American Idioms in the Land of Bach and Beethoven" and invites interested scholars and musicians to participate. The conference, which will be held on the campus of the University of Missouri--Columbia on Friday through Sunday, 7-9 April 1995, seeks to draw serious attention to the flow of musical ideas from the United States to Central Europe during the twentieth century, to the warm reception given various kinds of American music--notably jazz--by many members of German society, and to the influence of this intoxicating foreign music on creative figures in Germanic musical circles.
